Village Christian Academy & Longleaf Academy Collaboration

Longleaf Academy was established in 2013 as a private, non-profit resource program and is a fully accredited instructional program through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham. Through our partnership with VCA, children with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences are able to participate in individualized multi-sensory instruction that meet their learning needs for reading, writing and math. Partnering with VCA enables Cumberland County families and families in surrounding areas to have access to exceptional evidence-based intervention. By teaming with Longleaf Academy, Village Christian Academy students will have the opportunity to make more than 40% growth; statistically, these boys and girls will be ready to enter a rigorous middle and high school programs upon completion of Longleaf’s Orton-Gillingham Accredited Instructional Resource Program. Collaborative services should not stop at the door of the resource room. Our caring VCA teachers work in unison with Longleaf’s highly trained Orton-Gillingham practitioners to develop accommodations and differentiated instructional practices, so students diagnosed with dyslexia are able to fully participate in the general classroom for other subjects.

The Orton-Gillingham Approach (OG Approach)
The OG Approach is based on more than 75-years of evidence-based research and is the “Gold Standard” multi-sensory instructional approaches for children diagnosed with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Longleaf Academy teachers are certified at the Academy of Orton-Gillingham’s Classroom Educators’ Level and are highly trained professional that individualize instruction in a 4:1 student/teacher ratio. Longleaf Academy is a “data-driven” individualized program based upon the students’ present level of academic performance. Because Longleaf Academy teachers are trained in OG and

supervised by an OG Fellow, these professionals have a deeper understanding

of how to maximize the students learning process to acquire proficiency in

reading, written language, and math.
Specialized instruction is key to the students’ success.

Student Criteria & Admission
For admission into Longleaf’s Resource Collaborative Program,

students must be enrolled in Village Christian Academy
and meet the following intellectual criteria:

 Average or above verbal IQ (100 or higher)

 Diagnosed with dyslexia and/or ADHD by a licensed psychologist

 The diagnostic report must be within the last 3 years
